On Friday, I was privileged to meet Cancer Research UK funded scientists in Southampton to learn more about their life-saving work.
Together with the Member of Parliament for Southampton Itchen, Royston Smith, we witnessed ground-breaking research at University Hospital Southampton, where scientists funded by the charity help to ensure more children and adults survive the disease.
Given that 1 in 2 people born after 1960 in the UK will be diagnosed with some form of cancer during their lifetime, cancer does – and, sadly, will – have a very real impact on families in North East Hampshire and beyond. That’s why it was so inspiring to hear about the progress Cancer Research UK is making in the fight against the disease right here in Hampshire.
