Over 50 people gathered in Hartley Wintney as part of the national Clean for The Queen tidy-up event on Saturday 5 March.
Across the UK more than a million people have been out and about across the long weekend of 4, 5 and 6 of March clearing up the places where they live to help celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday in April.
As part of the campaign, the Hart District Council Countryside Rangers held an event in partnership with Hartley Wintney Parish Council which saw a community clear up event on Saturday 5 March between 10am and 12 noon. At the end of the litter pick event the Hart District Council Street Cleansing team collected 48 bags, which weighed in at 0.12 tonnes.
Speaking about the event Cllr Steve Forster, Cabinet Member for Environment & Technical Services at Hart District Council, said: ‘Clean for The Queen is about everyone working together to give the country a big spring clean ahead of Her Majesty’s birthday and Hartley Wintney came out in force to support it. It was fabulous to receive the support of the Rotary Club of Hart, and that our MP Ranil Jayawardena also joined us. I’m delighted that we were able to remove 48 bags worth of litter from the streets and countryside in Hartley Wintney.”
Ranil said: "I’m delighted to see such a large turnout for this event, and I look forward to attending the rest of the Clean for The Queen events organised by Hart District Council.”
The next community event will see Hart District Council working with Blackwater's retail community and local customers in helping clean-up the area. The Council are funding a deep clean of the public amenity areas around their local shops from the 14 to 16 March.
