Mr Jayawardena was pleased to attend the Flood Free Homes campaign earlier this week. The campaign was launched by the Association of British Insurers, Friends of the Earth, the National Flood Forum, Know Your Flood Risk, the Property Care Association’s Flood Protection Group and the BRE Centre for Resilience.
Ranil said: ‘Flooding has long been recognised as one of the greatest natural threats the UK faces, and this campaign wants to ensure that by 2025, no home is at high risk of flooding. Without action to reduce the risk, across the UK, the effect on homes, businesses, communities, infrastructure and way of life is potentially devastating. I’m looking forward to working with them in the future to see how the campaign can directly help the residents of North East Hampshire, not only to help existing residents through improving drainage systems, but also to stop new homes being built in areas at risk of flooding and compounding existing problems.’
