I don't know if you heard but Hampshire County Council recently released some great news regarding the Government's Homes For Ukraine Scheme. Starting this month, and until March 2024, Hampshire residents hosting Ukrainian guests will receive an extra discretionary top-up of £200 per month, bringing the total monthly payment to £700!
This additional support recognises the important contributions of Hampshire’s hosts, and aims to alleviate the cost of living pressures they might face. With many hosting arrangements having come or about to come to an end, this may help new hosts to come forward and support the Ukrainian citizens who wish to continue living in our county, albeit temporarily, as well as the small numbers who continue to arrive.
These extra payments will be funded entirely by HM Government through grants to local councils, so won’t take funding from other local services. Hampshire continues to stand strong, welcoming the third highest number of Ukrainian nationals in England and I am proud that the people of our county are making a real difference in the lives of those seeking refuge.
Hampshire County Council are launching a new campaign, asking more local residents to consider hosting, whether in the short or long term. It explains the Homes for Ukraine scheme and the support available. You can find out more and how to get involved here: hants.gov.uk/host
