North East Hampshire MP Ranil Jayawardena has called on constituents to nominate their local country champions for the ‘Rural Oscars’.
Nominations for the Countryside Alliance Awards 2020 – which recognises excellence in rural heritage, produce, and enterprise – opened on Monday 9th September.
Mr Jayawardena said:
“North East Hampshire has some incredible farmers, producers, butchers, pubs, and shops; all of which really demonstrate the best of rural living.
“I’d love for them all to get the recognition they deserve so, if there’s a local business making a difference in your area, why not nominate them for a Countryside Alliance Award?”
The seven award categories are:
- Local Food/Drink
- Village Shop/Post Office
- Butcher
- Rural Enterprise
- Pub
- Game Champion
- and the Clarissa Dickson Wright Award – which centres on her belief in campaigning, educating and prioritising slow food, taste, quality, and support for farmers and producers.
Nominations close on 8th December 2019 ahead of a grand final at the House of Lords in June 2020.
