The CLA, which represents landowners, farmers and rural businesses across England and Wales, arranged for Ranil Jayawardena to visit a tenanted dairy farm in Rotherwick owned by Hampshire County Council and the Newlyns Farm Shop and café in Odiham.
David Hill, CLA South East Rural Surveyor said that the visit was a useful opportunity to talk to Mr Jayawardena about issues which concern many farmers and landowners in the North East Hampshire constituency.
David said:
“Rural businesses make a significant contribution to the North East Hampshire economy and we were able to demonstrate the success of diversification schemes such as farm shops, as well as highlight some of the challenges faced by farmers and landowners in the area.”
Ranil said:
"Thank you to Will and Katy Fox for showing me around the Lyde Green Farm. It was excellent to see - first hand - the work that they do and to hear their passion for dairy farming.
"I also visited Newlyns Farm and was treated to a fabulous working lunch afterwards. It’s a fantastic place, and a great showcase for diversity in farming with a thriving farm shop, cooking school and café"
