Reading School invited Sir Ranil Jayawardena to speak to pupils – some of whom hail from north Hampshire – about his time in local and national government, and to answer their challenging questions about serving as a Member of Parliament and Cabinet Minister.
Sir Ranil said:
“From my time as a Borough Councillor in Basingstoke, through to my maiden speech in Parliament, and my work as a School Governor today, I have always believed that education holds the greatest hope for a life rich in promise.”
“The consequences of failure are too serious. We must always strive to improve education because it is there that we set up the children of today – and the families of tomorrow – for life, fully able to contribute to our society and economy.”
“I have no doubt that the pupils of Reading School will do just that.”
