Mr Jayawardena met with Country, Land and Business Association earlier this week. The CLA represents landowners, farmers and other rural businesses across England and Wales, providing expert, independent advice; supporting the interests of its members and promoting best practice in land management, ownership and rural business activities.
Ranil said:
‘I was glad to meet with senior representatives from the CLA. We talked about some of the issues that rural businesses face, particularly poor broadband services. I look forward to working with them on this and other issues to help rural communities across North East Hampshire.’
Robin Edwards, CLA South East Regional Director comments:
‘The size and strength of the rural economy is significant, with our statistics showing that in North East Hampshire alone, landowners, farmers and rural businesses employ nearly 21,000 people and contribute an estimated £930 million in Gross Value Added to the national economy. We were delighted to have the opportunity to meet Ranil and discuss some of the issues which affect our members, including access to fast, effective broadband, planning concerns and the importance of ensuring national business policies support economic growth in the countryside as well as urban areas.’
