As well as highlighting the Marriage Allowance during the second reading of the Small Charitable Donations and Childcare Payments Bill in the House of Commons, I met the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Philip Hammond, M.P., to discuss what more the government can do to help married couples through the tax system.
It is my belief that the government should strongly support the institution of marriage. We must make sure that we do not discriminate against households where only one person is in work - which is why I believe that one way that we can create a country and a tax system that works for everyone is by increasing the Marriage Allowance.
After all, married couples share 100% of their financial responsibilities, and 100% of the work behind caring and providing for children, if they have them, so I believe that changing the tax system further is a way of recognising this.
