I often take walks around North East Hampshire with my wife and little daughter, so it was great to be treated to a tour of Fleet Pond by Colin Gray, Chairman of the Fleet Pond Society, where I found out more about their future plans for one of the most lovely corners of the constituency.
Volunteers - both local North East Hampshire residents and businesses - have done so much in recent years, but it is clear that there is always more to do to protect and enhance the 141 acre... nature reserve. It was particularly striking to hear how nearly all the funds raised by the Fleet Pond Society (and donations from local organisations such as Fleet Lions Club) are spent on materials, with labour donated by volunteers. Without these dedicated folk, so many recent improvements would not have happened.
