Ranil Jayawardena—Member of Parliament for North East Hampshire—met the Managing Director of South Western Railway (SWR) on 25th October to discuss the proposed timetabling changes from December 2018.
It was a fruitful meeting and SWR has now committed to consult on an alternative timetable, which protects the level of service from Hook, Winchfield and Fleet, whilst boosting the number of seats and speeding up some journeys too. The alternative timetable is available at: bit.ly/nehtimetable
Ranil Jayawardena MP, said:
"I asked Andy Mellors, Managing Director of South Western Railway, to meet me in Westminster so he could hear the strength of feeling on the original proposals from me personally. The fact that SWR has issued a revised timetable for consultation now demonstrates their willingness to listen and I welcome this."
Mr Jayawardena continued:
“We mustn't leave matters there though - we could still end up with the original, disastrous proposals if people don’t back the next stage of my campaign. If you have not yet signed my petition (bit.ly/hookwinchfield), please do. If you have not yet shared it with your friends and family - or fellow passengers - please do. Every person counts.”
Mr Jayawardena will be sending everyone that has signed the petition a special response form in early November so they can easily and quickly respond to the consultation on the alternative timetable.
Mr Jayawardena will present the petition to Parliament in November.
