Ranil Jayawardena visited Robert May’s School to discuss future plans for the school with the Head Teacher Joanna West, and to take part in a ‘Question Time’ session with Year 9 pupils who have been studying democracy.
Ranil commented: ‘It was a special visit for me as I went to Robert May’s, so I got the chance to thank the school that helped me to get to where I am now.
‘It wasn’t all plain sailing though; the pupils certainly gave me a grilling! They were very up to date with current affairs, asking me about topics such as university fees and development in the local area. I also spoke about what it was like to be a Member of Parliament, and what I was hoping to achieve. I’m sure we’ll see more politicians from Robert May’s in the years ahead!
‘I enjoyed talking to Mrs West, and I’m looking forward to working with her to ensure pupils across North East Hampshire get the best possible education.’
