As part of World Animal Protection’s Sea Change Week (4 -11th June) the international charity Sea Change was at Westminster encouraging MPs to take action for marine animals. The campaigning organisation dedicated the week to encouraging local beach users, coastal walkers, tourists, divers and ocean lovers to send evidence of ghost fishing gear that is littering our coastline.
Ranil said: 'I was glad I could attend the event to support the charity which aims to end the devastating impact of ghost fishing gear on marine mammals and wildlife. Ghost fishing gear refers to any fishing equipment or fishing related litter that has been abandoned. Most of it is made out of plastic and leads to birds, turtles, fish and other species being injured and killed.'
Alyx Elliott, UK Sea Change Campaign Manager at World Animal Protection said: 'We are grateful that Ranil joined us during our time at Parliament and is supporting our Sea Change campaign.'
